Summer camps create an environment filled with joy, entertainment, and adventure for children and families. For patients and their families, these camps offer an even more impactful experience, providing a period of relief from the daily challenges of illness, a chance to connect with others who are facing similar struggles, and an opportunity to create lasting memories. Here, we highlight three organizations that provide these experiences to both patients and families: Camp Kesem, Camp Camp Esperanza, and Camp Quality USA.

Camp kesem

Camp Kesem is a week-long summer camp for kids ages 6-18 who are impacted by a parent’s cancer. At this camp, there is a focus on creating fun experiences that help children escape the challenges of coping with a parent’s cancer diagnosis. Campers find adventure, creativity, build trust, and create new friendships.

Camp Esperanza

Camp Esperanza is a week-long camp offering kids with cancer a chance to play and to explore. This camp allows them the opportunity to discover their new selves with cancer and to recognize how normal life can still be. Here, campers share stories with others on the journey of fighting cancer while building friendships and encouraging one another in the midst of joy and laughter.

Camp Quality USA

Camp Quality is a week-long summer camp which serves children with cancer and their families by providing unique experiences and companionship, promoting hope and inspiration, and helping children foster life skills and develop their full potential. This camp offers year-round programs and offers opportunities for patients to be kids, and allows for their families to spend time together.

Summer camps for patients and their families offer countless benefits such as breaks from routines, providing a sanctuary of hope and connections, and joy during trying times. These three camps are just some examples of camps that offer unique, supportive environments where children and families can escape from their daily challenges, build meaningful relationships, and enjoy unforgettable experiences. By focusing on both support and entertainment, these organizations provide meaningful relief and encouragement for patients and families.
