Summer camps create an environment filled with joy, entertainment, and adventure for children and families. For patients and their families, these camps offer an even more impactful experience, providing a period of relief from the daily challenges of illness, a chance to connect with others who are facing similar struggles, and an opportunity to create lasting memories. Here, we highlight three organizations that provide these experiences to both patients and families: Camp Kesem, Camp Esperanza, and Camp Quality USA. 

Camp Can Do

Camp Can Do is for children between the ages of 8-17, who have been diagnosed with cancer in the last 5 years. They also offer a special session of Camp Can Do for siblings, kids ages 8-17, whose brother or sister has been diagnosed with cancer. This camp is run by a team of volunteers, doctors, oncology nurses, survivors, former campers and professionals ranging from child life specialists to accountants. At Camp Can Do there are fun activities such as arts and crafts, swimming, fishing, boating, rocket and pine car building, archery, biking, ceramics, music, and much more.  

Sunrisevx

SunriseVX is a virtual camp experience for children with cancer and their siblings, ages 3.5 to 16 and is 100% free of charge. SunriseVX includes a wide variety of options for your children including music, dance, sports, field trips, drama, science, technology, engineering, arts and math, yoga and more. Their staff is highly trained to work amongst the campers and to bring their knowledge and expertise which will be age appropriate to create a wonderful camp experience.

Camp Periwinkle

Camp Periwinkle provides a community of healing for children with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses through emotionally-healing camps, arts, and survivor programs.
Camp Periwinkle is a week-long overnight camp for children, ages 7-15, who are currently being treated or previously treated for cancer at Texas Children’s Cancer Center. Siblings, within the same age range, may attend camp with the patient. This camp is free of charge. Camp has activities such as the ropes course, horseback riding, archery, swimming, arts & crafts and cooking help foster psychosocial benefits which improve self-confidence and develop social skills.

Camp Rainbow

Camp Rainbow offers many different camps such as Oncology Overnight Camp, SIBS Overnight Camp, Teen Camp, Family Camp, Teens-N-Twenty (TNT), and Camp-In. The Camp Rainbow Foundation provides free camp experiences and programs for children and families affected by childhood cancer and blood-related diseases. This foundation has served over 14,000 campers with the help of 227 dedicated volunteers, 15 caring medical professionals, and our small but mighty team of six employees and one intern. Camp Rainbow provides life-changing experiences for children and families affected by pediatric cancer through seven unique camp programs.
